Re: Brake vacuum pump replacement clio 1998

Try as I might, I can't confirm if the 1.2 has a vacuum pump. Anyone ??

Generally, swapping them on a Renault is simple, bolts to end of cam shaft opposite timing end and readily accessible... at least on the 1.5 diesels.

Looking at reasons for the advisory, pump as mentioned, if it has one.
Leaks in vac system... not unknown for a pipe to be disconnected or split.
Sticky brake servo.
Poor engine so vacuum not overly high.... would have thought this would be reflected in poor emissions as well.

I am assuming that the MOT tester felt brakes were spongy and tried exhausting the vacuum to check, then felt the system didn't "pressurise" too well when engine back on.

Personally, with a 6 hour journey to collect, I'd be looking for something nearer home unless there is something special about the car.
But plenty of older Clios on the market.
Currently in Dancingdad's garage:
Qashqai 1.6 spark driven, Kia Sedona 2.9 TDI, Scenic II 15DCi 2004 (SORN) not quite RIP.
