Hi Carl - if it doesn't feel right - walk away. I know babies ain't cheap but why sell both cars - are you sure he wasn't a dealer. Generally people in Northern Ireland tend to keep their cars for around 3 years - so it sounds like it has had too many owners. One other thing how long has the car been up for sale. It ain't easy buying a second hand car no matter what anyone says - just keep looking - that way you'll get some experience. Before buying a car always check out the trade prices (see link below) and as I said earlier, Renaults can usually be bought privately for less than book price - especially in Northern Ireland.
I was able to pick up a 2001 Laguna 1.9Dci last June for £1800 - at least £400 below bottom book
