Get them to quote for the welding and learn how to sort the rest.
Plenty on here can help with advice.

What does bother me is the starting issue.
Could be simple, needing an EGR clean, possible glow plugs (why oh why do garages always point to these on starting issues with DCIs), filter change.
May be a leak on the fuel inlet lines that needs tracking down and fixing.
May be indicative of something more major like pump breaking up or injectors leaking.

That I would sort or at least find out about before spending out on it.

Cheap cars are great lessons and you can use it too learn on without worrying too much about wrecking something expensive.
You know the maddest thing ever, as you mention glow plugs....?

My dci was very hard to start for a few days a few months back. Long story short. Bought 4 glow plugs off eBay for 17, fitted them. Bought a leak off kit for 25 on eBay , tested with it & no issues found.

Never a problem starting since. Wierd.
