The OBC first works it out in L/100Km then converts to MPG which is why it seems to jump.
It gets steadier the longer you leave it.
I quite like them but the one on my Laguna 1 was better in my opinion as it ofered more readings such as the time the engine has been on for which i quite liked but the best thing it did was to offer a second reading of every thing that could be reset with out reseting the main one i.e. you are on a long (1000+ Miles) journey and you leave the main one set at start but you can reset the second one at each refill. That way you could see what your overall consumption, distance, time etc was as well as after each refill.
