'Watchdog' is pushed for time I guess, but I would be interested to know what the difference was that made Vauxhalls subject to a recall and Renaults not.
The difference is when the Vauxhall recalls was issued VOSA only had the power to recommend to Vauxhall to carry out a recall. IF Vauxhall never and their was an accident resulting from this then VAUXHALL would be liable.
The way the law stands now is that VOSA can INSIST on a recall. If VOSA do this and the manufacturer can prove their is no problem the VOSA are liable! So although VOSA have more powers they also have more liability and this is what I believe is the reason why VOSA have NEVER used the General Product Safety Regulations.
The manufacturers obviously have recognised this so although the law has improved in this area VOSA don't have the back bone to use it!!!!
