It's only two bolts to remove it though I admit its a wee bit fiddly. A squirt of WD40 will not suffice - the sensor corrodes a little and also attracts small metal filings from the flywheel. It is these that cause the sensor to not operate properly. Removing the sensor and physically wiping it will possibly yield better results - you're aiming to get the sensor "tip" to be nice and shiny. I did add a squirt of WD40 when I cleaned mine (though I did eventually replace it) whether the WD40 helps or not is anyones guess.
