Hi all,

2013 Renault Grand Scenic, Double Clutch 6 gears auto gearbox, 180,000km, well kept and maintained.
On the last couple of months we sometimes get "Auto Gearbox Overheating" right after starting the car, usually in the mornings but sometime after shorter parking period.
When displayed, the gearbox will not go into 1st or Reverse gear, when motor idle, but if we lean a little on the gas pedal, it will.
Then when stating to drive everything is normal (except the well known fact this otherwise-nice gearbox doesn't like low speed).

My dealer says replace gear computer ~800Euro.
A gearbox specialist who claim to renew these gearboxes says they might start with the gearbox computer but the cause is mechanic and it will not end there.
Anybody experienced this? This gearbox is used with the Fluence sedan (aka "Renault Samsung SM3") and some other automatic Renault models.

Thanks!

I had a similar problem (with the message only, not the gear selection). It cleared itself up after I replaced the car battery for other reasons. Not saying they are definitely linked as I am a big believer in coincidence - especially with car problems. It is obviously a spurious non-fault as there is no way the gearbox is hot after standing all night.

Hi just wondering if you or anyone had this issue resolved? I have this same issue in my 2012 Megane, check auto gearbox, gearbox overheating when I start it in the morning, and if I restart it its fine again. Sometimes it throws up random faults like check airbags, traction control error, ABS light, check esp, check hill start assist, etc. Renault garage told me to replace the automatic gearbox but I dont think it is the main issue. I had the gearbox oil refilled a month ago and I still get this error sometimes.

I think its an electrical / wiring fault? I accidentally drained my battery at the weekend from having the headlights on all day with no engine running, and those errors popped up again. I jumpstarted it and its been fine since.

Does anyone know what it could be?
