Re: scenic 2000 2ltr rear brakes

It's either the pads are seized into the caliper carrier (a common problem),the handbrake cable is over-adjusted/not releasing correctly,or the caliper piston is partially seized and not returning.

Check the handbrake mechanism is against it's stop with the handbrake off,if it's not then you need to check adjustment and the cable. The handbrake should be left with a reasonable amount of movement on it on vehicles with rear discs,at least 5 or 6 'clicks' at the lever.

If the handbrake arm is fully released then remove the caliper and check the pads move freely.I strongly suspect that the pads will be stuck in the carrier and the carrier will need to be cleaned and a small amount of grease (particular grease for use on brake components) applied to the contact areas.

If the pads are free, the levers against their stops etc, then the caliper piston is sticking and the only way to remedy this 100% is to replace it with a new/recon unit. You can try and free the piston up but the problem will gradually return.....
