Re: abs problem!

check the (O/S/F) extension cable that runs across the front of the Steering rack. check for any damage to it. it should be encased in plastic tubing to protect it from heat off the exhaust and oil and held inplace on plastic clips all the way across the engine bay.

you could try swapping the NS and OS front sensor cables and re-check.

Re: abs problem!

Hi, thanks for the advice, I'm not convinced that's the problem.
I had it checked out again today with a snap on solus diagnostics, the code came back as a fault with the right rear wheel bearing. Hmmmm I only changed that about 2 months ago, Si today I made a warranty claim on it and changed it. The come complete with the brake disc, so pretty straightforward. Guess what, the goddamn light is still on.
One guy suggested to check the tracking, this is way out and does pull pretty hard to the right, I don't think this is part of the problem but needs sorting either way.

So to recap the car has now had
O/s/f wheel bearing
O/s/f sensor
N/s/f wheel bearing
N/s/f sensor
O/s/r wheel bearing
It registers speed from each wheel and they read consistant with each other.
Continuity tests from all 4 sensors back to the ecu loom.
Voltage checks to each sensor
All checks come back as good.

Must admit I'm at a loss now

Re: abs problem!

Hi, I have similar problem.
I have my ABS light on and speedo not working, I assumed it was the N/S/F sensor so changed it but still no joy. I then changed the other side just in-case I had it wrong, and still ABS light and no speedo.
I attached my Can clip ( which I don't know how to use properly ) and on the ABS it said that ABS computer not detected. What does this mean exactly, that it is not powered up ?

Re: abs problem!

Good day gentlemen

Ive got a Renault Megane 2001 1.6 RXE.

A few years ago my speed-o occasionally started switching on and off, giving me a shudder in my brake pedal. occasionally switching back on again. and recently ended up not starting at all..

Now this weekend i was fed up with the speed o not working and having done some research previously i decided to take on the challenge. i tested all four abs sensors, they working, also disconnected the abs control unit wiring loom and tested the connection between the control unit and all the abs sensors cables and concluded that they were working fine..

Next to the battery there is a main fuse box, inside there is a small white plug. there is a couple wires that run from the abs control module to the dash via this plug. after i did some research i understood that there was a lot of people complaining about wire corrosion at this white plug. i found corrosion and i ended up removing the plug completely by cutting it out and directly connecting the wires to another (color to color)

I also engaged the diagnostic mode on the dials and they all work fine..

All my hard work has provided little fruit as the speed-o still doesn't work. I'm suspecting the abs control module has gone and id like to hear from the forum members if they have any experience in this..

my car has very high mileage and is only worth about roughly R30 000 (3000 pounds). its been well maintained and serviced regularly but it would seems so pointless in spending 1/3rd of the cars value to get the speed-o working.

Kind regards

Re: abs problem!

OK finally, my car is fixed and working well.

inside the footwell, on the drivers side, there is a plastic kickpanel on the right (by the bonnet latch) pull that plastic off, disconnected and reconnected the plugs and voilą, everything started working again..

before the miraculous fix my driver side window, fan controller, speed-o, windshield wipers, and abs system was malfunctioning. if you have any one of these problems check there as it is a option..

kind regards
