Renault Scenic Handbrake Fault?

Hi Guys,

So i recently purchased a 2004 Scenic 1.9dci and its been a pleasure to drive and have been really happy with it.

However last week it failed to start and put it down to a dodgy battery so changed it and was on my way, however a few miles down the road loads of warning lights came up and i lost power steering. So i pulled over and turned the car off.

The handbrake wouldnt engage and there was little power in the car and had to get recovered home. It turns out it was the alternator....

The car was srtipped down and we awaited the part, 2 days later it arrived and was fitted and the car was back to normal, however when i get in the car it beeps and me and says "parking brake fault" the parking brake is working perfectly fine but this error message wont go away

Any ideas on a solution to my problem and is it something i can do without having to go to Renault?

I'd imagine an indy garage would have the equipment needed to clear the fault at a fraction of the dealership cost.

It's also not unheard of for a handbrake fault message to clear after several operations of the handbrake. Time will tell eh ?

Thanks for your reply.... I have been driving it for nearly a week and still no joy.....

Off to a garage next week i think to put it on a diagnostic

Hello!
I am a new user forum!
Already sorry about English spelling errors. Because I am not an Englishman.

A year ago I bought my Scenic II.
Once there was a dead battery. The hand reveals the electronic handbrake to pull the car. After the car pulled error appeared: "Check the handbrake."

Today was "KwikFit" where I was read the error code. Code number: B0053. But this code was not in their system.
Does anybody have any idea what this is about the code?

Re: Renault Scenic Handbrake Fault - FIXED

I have recently had the handbrake failure on our Scenic 55 plate. I took it to a Renault specialist (Drivers Only in Addlestone) and he tried a few times to reset it, no luck. I also tried removing the battery for 10 minutes also no luck. I reluctantly booked it into SMC Renault, in the mean time one of the HT Coils failed so the engine was missing. I replaced all four and all was good, but I noticed that the HT leads was badly scorched by arcing up the sides due to the ceramic breaking down. The next day Renault were able to reset the computer within minutes.

Speaking to a friend who is also an electronics engineer, we agreed this could have been a factor and why the cars computer was reporting a handbrake fault.

This is hard to prove but, if anyone else has a computer fault it is worth checking, especially as I notice most of these cars mentioned here are of an age where the HT leads will be around 5 - 7 years old.
