Question Locking brakes

Hey folks, im new here and in need of a little advice.

My renault megane 2002 rear brakes locked on the other night, after stopping at a round about the offside rear brake locked on.
I am in the process of replacing them, as they needed to be replaced anyway, but i am going on holiday in it in a few weeks and obviously dont want this happening while im away.

I am quietly hoping it was just old shoes and i will have a quick fix with no worries

Assuming its not old brake shoes, what else could be the cause, any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks all

Re: Locking brakes

Renault rear brake shoes have a history of the linings coming adrift from the metal shoe. A good clean up of the drum and new shoes usually cures the problem but whilst you are in there lift up the edges of the boots on the slave cylinders. If there are any signs of corrosion or brake fluid it is best to have the cylinders renewed.
If brake sticking persists afterwards then it may be the drums are out of shape due to ovality.
