Ticking handbreak!

My 2004 espace when in park mode will start to make a ticking noise!! I have located this to the electronic handbreak underneath the car! The handbreak works ok but after I park up and the handbreak is applied the ticking noise starts! This goes off when I open the drivers door but then once closed it starts again! It sounds like a relay that has failed? If anyone could give a bit of info it would be much appreciated..thanks
