Espace 4 Front Brakes / wheel bearings
Having just changed the pads and discs on my 06 espace 2.2 thought it might be helpful to put some details.
I knew the brakes were low (MOT advice and loud squealing) but thought I had a wheel bearing problem too with that regular grunk-grunk-grunk noise. Had one wheel bearing replaced at local garage and the sound went on...until I replaced the discs and pads. (Pads were rubbing corrosion on disc.)
To replace ..jack.. remove wheel, unbolt (2 off 18mm AF bolts) the whole calliper after pushing back the piston (G-cramp best) two torx screws hold the disc in position plus corrosion. Needed mighty welt with club hammer and dropped off. Clean seating and replace disc and torx screws. one pad pops into calliper piston with clips, the other is held by a feisty spring clip - most difficult job persuading the new one (with pads) back into position. Then bolt on calliper & wheel and you are in business.
Exercise pedal before road test to get the pads back to the disc otherwise you will need to change your pants after road test.
Got discs from Megaspares in Tamworth for £47 - they are £77 on the internet and £100+ from Renault.
15 minutes per side if you know what you are doing an hour if you don't. But dead easy job!
