Emergency Brake Assist Activation

When leaving a car park the other day a little yobmobile shot straight out of a bay in front of me. I instinctively stamped on the brake and dropped the clutch at the same time (When in doubt, both feet out!). Wow, the car nearly stood on its nose and stopped dead. The surprising part to me was the engine switching itself off and the hazard lights coming on. I felt a bit of a prat at that point, stationary in the car park exit lane. Having done a bit of google research since it seems that these systems work in conjunction with ABS and activate that as well if necessary. Seemingly they were developed because in real emergencies people either don't apply the brakes hard enough in the first place or start releasing the pressure too soon. Obviously it activates when the pedal is stamped on rather than just under heavy pressure. I suspect that as releasing foot pressure might defeat the object of the system, once activated it is going to bring the car to a complete halt regardless of driver action.

Anybody know differently?

Anyway, I've discovered in a non-life threatening situation that the system works. It wouldn't be wise to be a tailgater behind anything with that system in operation.

Re: Emergency Brake Assist Activation

That's how I understand it works too. The car stalled because it detected a sudden adverse situation whereby the fuel cutoff activated as well. You must have really jumped on 'em.
