ABS ring and tracking

I bought a cv joint/shaft from a guy who sells loads on eBay a few months ago but when i fitted it it was making some clicking noises, the car was pulling to one side and the abs light was on. I didn't know anything about the rings you can buy and now having read up on it it looks like that may be the problem with it. Just wondering if that would have made the car pull to one side tho? I initially ordered the wrong one so when i got this one i laid it next to the old one i took off the car and it looked to be the same length but i don't want to take it all off again only to find its just the wrong shaft ...
