ive got a 91 txe espace the problem im having is the brakes when i put my foot down when the engine is running the brake pedal travels down ok but wont come back up all the way only by a matter of 20mm but when it doesnt come all the way up the brakes stick on put your foot under the pedal and lift it up then its ok again im thinking it could be the master cylinder but thought id see on here first if anybody got a clue for i go and get one
Certainly points to a lack of pressure in the system. It could me either the master or slave cylinder, but there would (normally) be a loss in braking efficiency as well. Are there any leaks in the system? How old is the fluid? Your cheapest option to try first would be to renew the fluid (if its more than a couple of years old), and bleed the system completely - see how that changes the situation, and move on to the servo side of things. I would also check if there is a spring on the pedal box, and ensure that it has not stretched so that it does not return the pedal upon release.
I'd check the pedal first and make sure nothing is hanging up or binding
If you don't see anything dodgy and you're pretty sure the brake fluid has never been changed on your beastie and you are not putting in a hlf litre of it every week?
You may find a crust of a white cystaline substance which is jams the master cylinder just at the back of the servo? Cure? remove the MC clean and fit new seal kit (or a MC) and replace brake fluid
