Sounds to me like there is a problem with the calipers,it could be a seized slide,sticking piston or the handbrake mechanism might not be releasing correctly.The discs should have come with new bearings if the garage used the correct parts,you should always ask to see the old parts they removed to see exactly what they have fitted.
Personally I would take the car to another garage,if anything untoward is found then get them to write it all down so you can present it to the original garage and get them to sort it.The car was fine before they replaced the rear pads,it is down to them to sort out the fault they caused.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
