Espace handbrake

Evening all.

I've trawled through most of the 'handbrake problem' threads, but can't seem to find one specific to the fault on our '57 2.0dci Espace, so here goes...

Car has 81k miles now, the handbrake's functioned perfectly from day 1. Its been parked for the last week at an airport. Handbrake won't release when trying to move forward, no warning light on dash. Moving off in reverse, it releases perfectly, again no warning light.

Handbrake applies properly, sounds 'normal', and releases properly when done manually.

Any ideas anyone?!

Re: Espace handbrake

Thought I'd bump this just to say its now fixed! Took it to the local garage in the hope that I could avoid a trip to a dealer, and the guy there sorted it. Apparently, it was a failed switch on the gearbox somewhere that wasn't telling the brake computer the car was in a forward gear. £20 for a new switch, £50 for diagnosis/removal/fitting. Well pleased!

As a matter of interest, I was also getting a dashboard message telling me to 'apply footbrake' before the start button would work. Weird.
