Unhappy Laguna rear brake imbalance

Hi all.

Recent cut backs have turned me into a novice mechanic following my Laguna failing its MOT this week.

I was advised there was a rear brake imbalance and advised to have the rear brake discs and pads changed for around 380.

This being too much I purchased the items myself and set to work.

However, although worn the current discs are smooth and have over 10.1 mm each and are even. The current pads are also worn but still even.

I have changed the pads as they were worn but I fail to see how replacing an adequate disc will solve this issue.

Is anyone familiar with the problem that can advise me if changing the discs is really necessary? I get the feeling I'm being had!
