handbrake failure

Hi I have a 2005 Renault grand scenic manual 1.6 which has developed handbrake problems.A couple of days ago I went to the car but the handbrake seized and I had a msg on the dash saying service and a letter p in a triangle I left the car for an hour and the handbrake released and I had no messages on the dash.Today I went out and the handbrake would not go on and it said parking brake fault so I turned car off and left in gear. When returning to the car and parking up the handbrake worked but when I went to go out it had seized again and has stayed seized with the original msg up I have tried the relese lever in the boot and also disconnecting the battery any suggestins?,
