Pulling boot release will not do any good, it's only a mechanical emergency release of the brake unit.
You seem to have a fault that is stopping car from starting. That is won't crank over and getting a check parking brake (and presumably "stop") warnings when you try.
As you've been working on clutch I'm guessing that one of the switches on the pedal has been disturbed or not connected. The flat box shaped position sensor will give a check parking brake warning if disconnected though I'm not sure if will stop the car from starting.
