Dashboard warning 06 scenic 1.6

I recently purchased a scenic 1.6 dynamique and just before I took ownership of the car the previous keeper had to fit a new battery which the RAC did. In the past couple of weeks I have had check parking brake appear on the dash a few times and the P light along with the service light (both orange) are on constantly. I put these down to the change of battery so thought I would get whatever reset as and when, but the past couple of days I'm getting a strange sound from the back end of the car mostly when stationary but sometime when I'm just pulling away.
It almost sounds like a grumble and this morning I was dry steering and it happened. The closest thing it sounds like is if you had a manual handbrake, the creaking sound it sometimes makes if your doing a hill start and slowly releasing the handbrake.
