Vel satis electic handbrake sounding like metronome when car off

Hello all - my 2003 vel satis electric handbrake seems to work fine but the computer announces that it is faulty. The only fault is when you turn the car off the handbrake sets but then a few minutes later it starts making a clicking sound like it is trying to engage again and again and again. I just bought the car and for now I am putting the card back in and releasing the handbrake and leaving it in gear. I know that I need to have the handbrake reset with a clip but I am worried that there might be more of a problem . I searched through the forum a bit and found no mention of this specific problem. Has anyone else had this experience and did just resetting the brake cure the problem? Thanks for your replies.
