Sorry guys had to open this thread I have no idea why my previous edit thread is locked I need to come back to it later lol anyway. Back to the brake pipes I am currently onto it now I have removed the old ones. Yeah I wondered why it wouldn't let me post. So here's another question about the pipes seen as I am doing the whole pipes. When I fit a pipe into the male Union I flare the tip into a double flare yes ? When I fit the female union I flare the tip into a bubble flare ?. Ps if I get up anybody knows for starting the thread I opoligise .
You need to put the same flair end on as you have taken off, dont know if you have read the instructions for your tool , but read them again,, can get you pictures of one in action if needed, going through each stage, but wont be able to do it before Saturday,
Locked thread was nothing do with you mate,, we have all moved on:d
Thanks our2012 Il save you the trouble il just look at the old pipes I just don't wanna mess this up because there's no going back if it goes wrong. thank you anyway appreciate the offer through. And phill48 I have mate there's some good help on there they just don't explain what to do on wait her end just how to flair.
I think your doing the right thing by repairing your car and putting the MOT on it..
Better spend the couple of hundred on your car which at the end you will know will be a decent car rather than by another cheap one and have problems..
Yeah I did dancing dad I'm not covered for the windscreen. As luck would have it a mate of mine has told me about a breakers yard with loads of scenics in so I have just made a call to them about a windscreen and they have one with no marks on for £60 and they dispose of mine happy days.
Fair enough, what about fitting it ?
Not as simple as in the old days when it got trapped in a rubber surround.
Not certain about Scenics but generally screens these days need to be properly fitted with the right adhesives etc as they are part and parcel of the car's structure.
Yeah I have an uncle who is an ex mechanic he can get adhesive he said he'd fit it properly if I bought him a pint or two which I'm happy about. He's an old chap now so he can't do all the work I wouldn't expect him too but I appreciate he offered to fit the windscreen.
Right so you more or less have the windscreen sorted.
Before you go buying 2nd hand windscreens....it may be worth a trip to a windscreen place to see if they can repair yours....it may save some work!
The next job I would look at would be the poor handbrake performance, is it just an adjustment needed or are the calipers starting to seize up....you need to figure this out.
I do I will ask about that when I visits thanks TTT might be worth asking hey. And I will start a new thread because I am not sure where this will go I will need more info as I go along.
A local guy to me always asked if you want new or 2nd hand 6 mths later I met him at my local scrap yard removing 2 screens
2nd hand was£60 fitted new £90 fitted that was for my kangoo van about 2 years ago
Ron
Yes sometimes you can get a screen fitted for not much more than a second hand one ..so maybe worth phoning about a few companies usually smaller ones are better
usually if you can cover damage with a 10p it can be repaired but repairs carry a risk that the screen may crack this will usually happen if the damage has been there for a considerable period of time weakening the integrity of the screen
Right as I had spare time on my hands and the gf is off shopping I decided to put the scenic on the ramps. Spent a good half an hour planning my work to replace the brake line.
GOOD NEWS the pipes connect In the middle just under the fuel tank and the front pipes look new no rust what so ever so I just need replace the back end which will save me a little bit of time ( the engine is a nightmare to get to the pipes) so that is what i will do just replace from the middle to the back.
I have also discovers while pondering how to keep the brake fluid from running out once the pipes are disconnected and I have found this brake line plug happy days.
Like I said in another post I will be taking pictures when I am on the job for others to see if they should need to.
I made my own plugs. Flare a very short piece of pipe - slide on a nut - bend the non-flared end over hammer it flat over a length of an inch or so. Better still if you have a blow-lamp solder seal the end shut.
suggest you don't use the blow lamp ! brake fluid is flammable.
I'd let the fluid flow out into a container, your going to bleed it through anyway, and the chances the fluid is probably so old it needs changing anyway.
