Question Laguna II handbrake cable stuck to caliper?

Currently swapping the shot rear calipers for refurbed ones, but the handbrake cable appears to be stuck into the hole in the caliper...? How to free it?

Re: Laguna II handbrake cable stuck to caliper?

wire brush, side cutter pliers, wd40, hammer
the combination of them should sort the problem out.

Spare parts available for 2001 Scenic 1.9Dci, 97 Lag1, 02 Lag2.

Re: Laguna II handbrake cable stuck to caliper?

Thanks for the reply. I gave up and cut both cables - and both the new handbrake cables refuses to go in the last feet or so into the center concole area... sigh...

Re: Laguna II handbrake cable stuck to caliper?

Water ingress in the rear footwells had caused the metal "guide pipes" for the handbrake cables to rust and disintegrate, so that was the reason why I couldn't get the new cables in. The foam insulation under the carpet were soaked in water. As far as I can tell the floor metal doesn't even have surface rust, only discoloration from rusty water! Perhaps the guide pipes has acted as some form of offer anodes?

Anyway, the local dealer quoted me 23 for new ones. Could have been much worse I guess

Re: Laguna II handbrake cable stuck to caliper?

When you fit the new cables put a bit of grease on the part of the cable that goes into the hole in the caliper then they will come out easier in future.

Simple common sense advice, I know, but you would be surprised how many people assemble parts dry.

Cheers.
