Problems removing Clio II RH handbrake cable

My Clio II 2005 1.5 DCI (rear disc brakes) has just lost its RH handbrake cable (lug snapped off the end at the caliper).

I removed the heat shield above the exhaust and removed the remaining end of the cable from the splitter/equiliser, but I can not remove the hand brake cable entirely from the car as just behind the equiliser T, above the exhaust, the 2 hand brake cables go through holes in the under side of the car, the lug on the end of the cable will not pass through the hole and out the other end? So it's impossible to remove without cutting off (which I now have)

Am I supposed to knock the little tube out of the hole or something? Something has to change under there or I'll never be able to feed a new cable back through the hole.

Please help!
Cheers,

Re: Problems removing Clio II RH handbrake cable

Just got some pics to explain what I mean.

There is a plastic plug either end of the whole through which the handbrake cables pass. I have removed the forward most plug from its hole with ease, but the rear plug is very much stuck in. It also has some sort of restrictor inside it that stops anything much thicker than the steel brake cable being passed through.

I assume I need to remove this plug from the hole to feed through the new cable (which also has different fittings either end than the old brake cable)

Does anyone know if i should remove the remaining piece of plastic? if so any tips on how to do so?

Re: Problems removing Clio II RH handbrake cable

UPDATE - Yes the plastic peg was residual piece broken off the end of the old hand brake cable, so I used a chisel and tapped it until it popped out. Then all was right with the world
