Manual brake release without starting engine?

Hi all,

I have a Reanult Grand Scenic from 2007. Currently, there is a problem with starting (it can't, because it doesn't recognise the key card). We need to have it town to get this problem fixed, but it is parked in a place where the truck can't get to it - we need to move it about ten meters. The problem is that the hand brake in on and the steering wheel is locked, so we can't push it back. And since it doesn't start, we can't unlock either.

Is there any way of disabling the hand brake and unlocking steering wheel without having to turn on the engine?

Thanks!

ps I am new to the forum, and could not find the answer to this question anywhere, but if it is out there somewhere, please bear with me.

Re: Manual brake release without starting engine?

Hi.
If it is the same as my Scenic have a look behind the rear seat for the emergency handbrake release, give it a pull and car will roll....carefull though if on a hill make sure you can stop it.

Regards the steering lock i think it can only be removed when unlocked......maybe someone with more knowledge could correct me.

Could ask the garage if they have wheel skates for steering

It is easier to take it apart than to put it back together

Re: Manual brake release without starting engine?

If the key card locks/unlocks the car, the steering ought to unlock.

For manual handbrake release in circumstances you describe, there is an emergency brake release in boot.
Somewhere by back seats, to one side I think in the Grand Scenic.
Red cover (may be missing) and yellow handle.
Good pull and brakes will release.
They cannot be put back on until reset (when engine running) so chock the wheels.

Not sure but may be able to release brake with dashboard controls.
Put card in, don't touch pedals, press and hold start.
Dashboard should light up after about 10 seconds.
Manual handbrake release and operate handles will work if so.

Re: Manual brake release without starting engine?

Thanks guys!

I still can't find the emergency release - not onder the mat in boot, but wheel skates sound like a great idea - hope they'll have that.

The key kan open and close the doors, but there is a lose connection or something in the dashboard, so the car can't recognise the key....
