Hi, I've got a 2007 scenic, 1.6 16v, I have got an issue with the brakes, when I slow press the brake pedal to slow down the car slows good but then when I take my foot off the brake and go to put my foot on the accelerator the brake pedal continues to go down on its own and you have to put your foot under it and lift it to release the brakes. it doesn't happen all the time, mabey 3 out of 5 times and then some days it wont happen at all. Ive had new discs and pads fitted and it still does it, I asked 2 garages to have a look and then both said it looks fine and they had no problems on a test drive but then as soon as I drive home its there again, One friend of mine said it could one of the pistons in the calipers and someone else said it could be the master cylinder but I have no idea, Has anyone else has this sort of problem or know the cause of this.
Regards.
Pete.

I would be checking in the footwell. Carpets etc.
also look for missing return springs.
Bear in mind Master cylinder is on the Passenger side. I kid you not.:frown2:

Is that the car were if the passenger pressed hard enough on the floor
it could activate the brakes, if so does it only happen when you have a
passenger? seem to remember the fix was to fit a guard.

Ours has started doing this.
If a lot of pressure is applied to the pedal it won't come back up and the car will not move off.
It's intermittent.
Hooking a toe under the pedal sorts it.
Must have a gander under there tomorrow and see if the disappearing footwell mat mystery is related.

Just back from test run and it may have gone away or at least into hiding for the moment. The servo is indeed at the other side and there is a fine torque tube that wouldn't look out of place on marine steering gear. It may have been dry at the opposite, passenger end. At one stage of the operation there was a dry click and a small shower of particles dropped from the general area of the bearing. I should be more careful about notes. I may or may not have noticed that before starting to oil things up, the torque tube support bracket to the bulkhead was moving ever so slightly with the tube. Now that you notice it, it's weird hearing the servo noises from the other footwell.
