Scenic Mk3 replace Parking Brake EPB Module

Hello, I have a mk3 grand scenic with a fully functioning parking brake, but occasionally when engaging it will throw up a check parking brake error with orange spanner, brake switch will flash instead of being on steady. Next time going to car and disengaging/re-engaging it will clear. this happens once every few weeks until after several times the 'check parking brake' message stays on with the spanner permanently, yet still functions fine. I have been digging and apparently it could be down to a faulty EPB Module located in the rear N/S quarter. Does anybody know if this is simply a straight swap with a replacement or will some coding with a can clip or similar be involved, or a specific procedure? Last thing I want to do is replace it and then the car throw a wobbly if it doesn't recognise it. Anyone else had to do this?

Regards

Before doing that check your Brake pads, Handbrake Cables if fitted. Sogginess in passenger footwell.
Does a MK3 actually have an EPB Module, I thought they were electric Calipers on that age?
Also check microswitches in the EPB Handle.
FIVE Scenics so far, NEVER changed a module.

Hi, bone dry in the front, pads all good. Switch seems to work fine, its a bit simpler on the mk3. The error can pop up either when used manually or when automatically engaged. The EPB Module is tucked away in the boot in the rear near side quarter on the mk3 that controls the electronic calipers. I had a mk2 several years ago and done about 100,000 miles in it without a single parking brake issue believe it or not.

Please don't call it an ECU, that is for the Engine.
Never heard of a problem with Mk3 EPB module....... Yet.
Suggest less expensive research. Wiring to calipers, indeed, calipers themselves, which have failed or just stuck. What evidence do you have to suggest that the most expensive part is faulty? Have you had it out & checked connections?
Had your fault codes read, otherwise you'll be playing parts darts?

Hi. Merely calling it the EPB "ECU" as that what it is printed on the part!

I will get the codes looked at at some point, but for the moment I am just weighing up what was involved IF this needed to be changed, whether or not it could be done without coding/programming to the car, arming myself with prior knowledge so to speak. Speculation at this moment in time until I get a proper chance to have a good look over.

Hoping someone out there may have had to have done it at some point and/or have any in depth experience with the newer system as there seems to be a lot less information out there on it.

Hi All to answer the original question I believe you can swop the EPB module if the replacement comes from the very same spec car. I changed one in a manual car with one from a auto and had to re programme the replacement with a Renault Clip. The Clip will also know it has been changed because the VIN will be coded in to the replacement EPB unit from the previous car, but it will work. I have a problem with my parking break but I do not want to hijack your thread so I will open a new one.

If your right hand caliper is not engaging, that is why you are getting error messages etc.
Dependent on car, issue could be cables, calipers or summat else.
I have been having same problems with mine.I had the rest caliper replaced and it was good for aa few days then problem came back, next the handbrake began engaging and wild not release so have disconnected the ejection to caliper and backed the parking brahe motor off by putting 12v to the connector on caliper. Next step is to change epb module and see if this works.

I’ve had it on clip and it says RHR Caliper actuator fault. That is part of the Caliper itself so going to replace the Caliper and see how I get on. Car is 2015 short wheel base scenic 3 only done 32,000 miles. We also have a 60 plate scenic 3 from new and never had a problem ??‍♂
