Hi guys, I'm going to be replacing my rear discs and pads on a family members Renault Grand Scenic 2005 on Tuesday. I have the Caliper windback fitting I'm just wondering is there anything else I should be aware of like the electric handbrake situation and such? Thanks.
Park, chock front wheels.
Enable ignition, by press and hold start without touching pedals, manually release parking brake with dashboard switch, press start to turn ignition off.
EPB should still be released.
Disconnect battery.
Now safe to work on rear brakes and should not affect EPB settings.
Once new bits are on, pump footbrake to bring pads forward BEFORE trying to operate parking brake.
Will need radio code and to reset windows.
Do not leave keys in car when reconnecting battery.
Turn sidelights on before reconnecting battery which is supposed to reduce spikes into ECU
Does the driveshaft nut have to come off to replace the disc? And what do you mean by windows resetting? Will the windows reset when I enter in the radio code?
Hub bearing not drive shaft as there isn't one at the back.
New discs ought to come with bearings.
I think a 30mm socket for the hub nut and will be tight so hex (six sided) may be best.
Should use a new nut
Check tightening torque, I think in region of 240nm but please check.
Reset windows.
When you reconnect, windows will move in jerks, not smoothly. Take them to bottom and hold button for 10 secs.
Take them back up and hold button.
Same for all windows.
Should move smoothly again, if not repeat and hold a touch longer.
