Hi,
Megane MkIII 2010 1.5dci estate

As is the want of French cars it's thrown multiple electrical problems at once, pulled off the driveway and got ABS, SERV, STOP, Brake system fault signs, then when i hit the stop button ... nothing, had to stall it to stop it ! Now it starts with the button without pressing clutch or brake, to stop it now I press the stop button once then hold it in for 4 seconds. The steering column lock does not work, no real clicks when the card is pushed in and out, plus the digital speedo has stopped working. Car still starts fine and drives although doesn't quite feel the same, previous to this the car has been fine A1 no probs at all.
My garage guy spent 20 mins trying to interface with it with the Snap-On, he was unable to pull any codes off it, multiplex unable to interface, obviously needs to go on CLIP but what the heck, all this at once ? Anyone had similar experience ?

Check the brake / clutch switch, first...

Brake switch is behind passenger glove box area, clutch switch on the clutch pedal
No relay showing for brake switch
If horn is working Diagnostic socket fuse is ok,,.
Lots of Renault cars, for diagnostics, engine needs to be running to communicate.. Or forced after ignition ...
But with yours having the Fault, would go for engine running, see if it will show on the multiplex that way.
If still no comms, then its unplugging each ecu/module to see what is pulling a can line downi

OK, thanks for that 2012 we tried it with the engine running, we even borrowed another Snap-On and didn't have any luck with that either, I'd like to get the brake problems sorted first, latest development is, with the engine running and light pressure on brake pedal it goes down, also the vacuum valve is buzzing and continues to do so for a good minute after engine is switched off, I can hear clicking by the vacuum pump as well, there is no brake fluid loss ??

Can in not communicate with any part of the car.
Clip will make no difference, if interface cannot connect to any module.
Mention to the mechanic about taking the ABS ecu plug off first, see if he can get comms back...

Ahh yes, they keep coming fast and furious, now discovered a clutch fluid leak from the 'clutch resonator ', seems like Renault are a bit too clever for their own good sometimes, in an attempt to pr-empt a future problem they build in a further problem, not sure if this has anything to do with the original problem but it is brake fluid leaking out although admittedly not a lot, looks like the battery tray has to come out ( oh joy ), anyone done one of these before and ' how ' do you bleed the clutch after ?

The Clutch Resonator is a sort of damper to reduce clutch Judder. Could be worse, could be a gearbox out job. :frown2:
Best Bleeding Method is Reverse. Syringe full of fluid up the bleed nipple. Reasoning:- Push the fluid in the same direction the air bubbles want to go. I.E. UP.

Thanks Notty, I'm no stranger to the spanners, I've done my fair share of ' down and dirty ', I guess I'm feeling pi**ed off because I bought the Megane against my better judgement, I just knew it was gonna turn out like the Citroen Xantia I once had, indestructible engine but should come with a booklet in the glove box ' A beginners guide to soldering', just sold a 04 dci Clio been in the family for 6 years 60k and all I did was rear shoes and cam belt, I ain't done 800 miles in the Megane and it's gone SNAFU and turning into a money pit, wouldn't be so bad if you could see the stuff that's broke, in my Transit Connect I can have the battery tray off in 5 minutes, just done a g/box speed sensor on it, but the Megane ? Sheeesh !! yesterday 10x10mm bolts and 2x13mm and the tray is still stuck fast, can you actually remove the ECU without having to take the tray out ? I've read other posts about brake pedal travel creep including yours, and I've read the posts about changing master cylinder and ABS modules and it hasn't fixed the problems, when things go wrong seems like Renault owners all have to dance to the Stealers tune which starts with the £60 diagnostics check ..... : (

Where IS the ABS module by the way ?

Where IS the ABS module by the way ?
Never paid a Dealer in my life. For £60, get ones own diagnostic unit.

Re ABS Location NFI, never in 6 Scenics & a Trafic have I had cause to find one, & too poor for a Mk3 :frown2:

New battery on now, but, now have no radio, fuse is good but it's deader than Elvis, clock and temp still work and go off when car is locked ( thank God for small mercies ). Are the Stealers still swapping FUBAR'd units for new ones ? Just to add a bit more pressure the MOT is up on Saturday .... : (

OK, thanks for sticking with it guys, new front N/S wheel speed sensor on yesterday, brake fluid level ok and the problems now are ...

. Steering lock off all the time
. No Speedometer
. Start/Stop button works without clutch depressed

Engine running the following ...

. Brake circuit warning illuminated
. STOP warning light on
. ABS warning light on
. Radio not working, not illuminated with dash lights

What scanners are you guys using, what do you recommend ?

Yes, my MOT guy Andy tried the laptop with a Delphi program on it, looked pretty impressive with the cable to OB2 all lit up with red/blue lights, it ran a diagnostic on all of the systems and found multiple DTC's which were cleared ( before you ask I didn't ask what they were as it was a freeby ), but, when it came to reading the ABS/braking module it was having none of it. Prior to this, connections to ECU were pulled and reconnected. I've probably used up my 'favours' now having it scanned a 3rd time for free so I'm emptying the big whiskey bottle and buying myself a fathers day present which is one of these three possibles .....

. icarsoft i907
. icarsoft RT II
. Launch Creader CR129 Pro

Anyone got something else they use or recommend ?

Have you checked the fuses yet,,,

Can you take some photos of your fuseboxes,, will be able to mark them for you...
Your under bonnet fuse box has a fuse for the abs system. Also a large fuse, for ABS
The interior fusebox has a fuse for the radio......

#20 ·
Any power to it,,, fuse marking was just to show you where it was..
Ignition on, this fuse should be live,,,
Need a multimeter,,, if not got one buy one, you have a Renault...

Can show you what to test, and results you should have..
There is also a larger fusebox in your engine compartment, could be down the side of your battery, or under your fusebox( picture),,,

Yes Master, I have multi-meter .... : ) Fuse that you marked has power in and out. handbook say's Fuse #16 is for radio, strangely enough this fuse has power to it and the fuse was good, I swapped it with a good one anyway but unable to find any power to the radio multi-connector block, I'm assuming it would be either red or yellow but taking into consideration it's a French car it may have been the black !!

Ahh, the Master returns ! Thank you for your input TT. I appreciate you have a very busy work schedule, it can't be easy traveling back and forth to Switzerland, couple of off topic questions for you Master if i may ....

. Is the Higgs boson particle, strong evidence that the Standard Model has the correct mechanism of giving mass to the elementary ,particles ?
. Are there as predicted by various models, extra dimensions based on string theory, and can we detect them ?

Anyways, back to the easy stuff ( for the Master anyway ), I'll post that foto asap, thanks !

A string walks into a bar with a few friends and orders a beer. The bartender says, "I'm sorry, but we don't serve strings here."

The string walks away a little upset and sits down with his friends. A few minutes later he goes back to the bar and orders a beer. The bartender, looking a little exasperated, says, "I'm sorry, we don't serve strings here."

So the string goes back to his table. Then he gets an idea. He ties himself in a loop and messes up the top of his hair. Then he walks back up to the bar and orders a beer.

The bartender squints at him and says, "Hey, aren't you a string?"

And the string says, "Nope, I'm a frayed knot.":grin2:
