Faulty Speedo & now no Brakes!!

I have a Clio 1.5 DCI Diesel 02 Reg, for about 6 months the speedo hasn't worked at all. Today all of a sudden it started working but now the brakes have stopped going

The brake fluid level was down low, so we topped it up, but its still the same

Can anyone tell me if these problems are linked, because it seems to much of a coincidence that the speedo hasn't worked all that time and the day it decides to work, the brakes fail

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Seems you have stunned everyone
The speedo starting to work definitely did not lose the brake fluid.
There is only one reason for loss of fluid - it is leaking somewhere! If the fluid was low when it was topped up there will be air trapped in the system which would give a poor brake but the essential is to find where it is leaking. Leaking is most likely at a rear wheel brake cylinder, corroded brake pipe or loose joint. You need to find the leak before the car is driven!

Got the brakes fixed, it was a break pipe that was broken. But the speedo is still not going. I have been told it could be an abs sensor that needs replaced. But they cost 50 each and i dont want to try it without knowing for sure thats whats wrong.

Can anyone shed any light?

I would have thought that you'd have an ABS warning light on the dash if that was the case, unless the bulb has gone

I agree - there is no point in spending money on what might be a problem.
Not all Clios use the ABS system for the speedo - some have an independent sensor on the gearbox - it could something as simple as a poor electrical connection.
I suggest you seek the opinion of another garage before going any further.
I appreciate 50 plus sounds a lot of money but what would fine plus points cost you of you where caught speeding.
Lifes a ***** at times but sometimes you need to speculate to accumulate
