Scenic - Smoking rear brakes

Hey guys,

Hopefully this is nothing for me to worry about, but I'll value your opinion.

Took my 2002 Scenic in for a service on Friday, and had almost 400 of work done on it.

One of my advisories was that my rear discs were worn, but still within limits. When I took the car in, I told them that there was a bit of a sqeak on the rear passenger side wheel.

When I collected the car, they said the disc was very slighty warped, but was ok. They warned me the sqeak was a little worse since they had cleaned the brakes in the service.

Been out in the car today, after already doing about 20 miles since Friday, and only travelled a couple of miles when there was a bad smell coming from the rear. On stopping, the same wheel was hot, and a little smoke coming from the brake. I had been doing around 60mph on a dual carriageway, the sqeak started, then slowed for a roundabout, which is when I first noticed the smell.

The 2 mile drive home was no trouble, with no smoke, no smell, and the wheel back a normal temperature.

Could this just be a result of having the car serviced?

Sounds like a sticking caliper or brake pad. Continued use could cause further damage and a bigger repair bill. Also an overheating brake can cause the brake fluid to boil with the risk and the inherent risk of brake failure. In the interests of safety I would suggest you get it looked at ASAP

Agreed, get it looked at for sure.

They have a tendency for the pads to seize into the caliper carrier, thats usually what causes the squeak.I'd be very tempted to replace the discs and pads now anyway as if one or more of the pads have got overly hot they tend to break up.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
