Difficult to believe the problem should arise simultaneously with the pad change and not be connected.
Tempted to say that the brake garage should "take it to a Renault garage" if they can't fix their own mistakes.
Regarding the immediate problem, that "what appears to be a box behind the brakes" is a £400+ brake unit. Why it should screech, I don't know, but obviously there is a fault and it is showing on the panel. You might usefully check the brake operation looking at the following.
Is the brake holding in the "on" position and releasing in the "off"?
Are both operating levers (behind the brake discs) moving with the brake operation?
When "off" are the operating levers in the fully retracted position?
Is either or both operating levers continuously in the fully "on" position?
I suspect that the parking brake was operated while the disc pads were being changed.
