Re: Busted spring rear brakes 98 clio

I've just replaced the slave cylinders and brake shoes on my 98 clio 1.4 8V. The pictures given by Ralph are as shown in the Haynes manual but, I found small bent wire pieces about 30mm long mounted on the leading shoes; one end going into the roll-pin, the other end clipped into the top hole of the shoe backing-plate. The top return spring was hooked onto this wire piece, not into the backing plate as shown in the pictures. So I suspect that madgolfaddict's son's mate had correctly installed his rear offside shoes and that the wire piece on the nearside had fallen out when the return spring broke. (Maybe the spring was weakened by being overstretched: Haynes recommend renewing all springs anyway.) Hope this helps someone.
