If I might add a small tip for future years. Find a good garage that does (or arranges) MOTs and book your service and MOT to take place together (service first obviously). The MOT will usually ensure that the service is done properly.
As for your current situation, I would ask your garage how your car could fail an MOT on braking system defects, so soon after a "full inspection" and clean bill of health. See what they say.

It was hard getting over my addiction to the Hokey Cokey, but I've turned myself around and that's what it's all about.
