Actually that may be where you are wrong. 4x4's centre of gravity is lower than you think (ok higher than most cars but lower than you would imagine for a 4x4). Thats due to the heavy weight of the axles mainly being the lowest components.

Likewise, you might be interested to know that a double decker bus can tilt at over 45 degrees with passengers and still self right itself - due to the centre of gravity being so low and the sheer weight of the mechanical parts being so high.

I have nothing against small cars. Infact I'd be quite happy with one myself if it had all the matching gadgets that the safrane has. I only wanted the safrane for 2 reasons: 1) the gadgets and 2) the volvo engine. Volvos are very well known for being almost indestructible (and I haven't had much luck with engines recently).
