Could be a brake piston stuck open and then somehow freed itself off again. Do a thorough check all round asap. Even though your brake pressure has returned I wouldn't recommend driving it as the same situation could occur again .... and maybe you won't be so lucky next time Count your blessings
I once had a car where the brake pedal suddenly hit the floor when the inner master cylinder seals failed. I remember the brake fluid changing to a very black soup. If your fluid is still clean it could be another problem.
Don't forget there is also an overload valve in the centre of the main brake line .. about 70 for replacement if that is causing problems.

If the campervan isn't your main vehicle then sticking brakes could become an issue if the van is sitting for months between trips.
