Scenic 3 - exhaust fumes in ventilation system **Fixed**

I get exhaust fumes coming through the ventilation system when I pull up (but not when moving, when the fumes are blown away). There is a smell of fumes under the bonnet when stationary and the engine is running, and these are getting drawn in to the air vents. I can't see where a leak in the exhaust system could be coming from, and there is no exhaust noise which you would expect if there was a leak in the exhaust pipe. This is a 1.1 litre petrol turbo engine, could it be something to do with the turbo (I'm not familiar with turbos, but aren't they powered by the exhaust gases?). Has anyone had similar problems?

This will be one of three things. 1. An oil seal leaking slightly dripping oil onto the exhaust manifold and giving off fumes (£20 fix), Exhaust manifold leaking gases, unlikely as too far under car (£200 fix), or a leaking/faulty turbo giving off excess gases (£700 fix as you will have to lift engine out to replace a £200 part). Did you find out which one it was in the end?

It was eventually traced (by the local Renault garage) to a breather pipe that had become detached from the rocker box cover - so they weren't actually exhaust fumes but fumes from hot oil. So it was fairly easy to rectify, with a new fixing for the pipe.
