Thumbs up Megane II door handle removal*Fixed*

Anyone successfully removed an External door handle from a Megane II ?

Having read the blurb (Haynes, Dialogy) it sounded quite easy so I had a go in order to replace a faulty locking button on the rear door handle. 30 mins max I thought once I released the lock barrel with a bit of bent wire (as suggested in the blurb) through a hole in the door frame.

Well, after 3 1/2 hours, door completely stripped down, everything hanging out, I had to give up - handle would not budge & it was raining (again)!

The bent wire trick might work on the front doors, I don't know, but not on the back doors! The entry hole for the wire is in a different place, which was a bad start...

I can't help thinking the rear lock mechanism must be a bit different from the front - the rear doors have a deadlock/anti-kid device that the fronts do not (BTW mine is a hands-free locking setup)

Anyone done this for real on the rear handles? I can't help thinking Haynes etc wrote the manual after doing the front locks & assumed the rears must be the same!
