Yup, the stereo's still the first thing I'd try. Are you absolutely certain that the lights worked for a while after it was fitted? It's not uncommon for people to accidentally wire the side light feed up as though it was ground (it checks out as ground with a multimeter so it's an understandable mistake.) If that's what's happened, then the side lights fuse will pop every time.

If you have a few fuses to spare, then I'd try this.
1) Insert the stereo removal tools and pull the stereo part way out but leave it connected. Swap the fuse and see what happens. If it doesn't blow, then you probably have a trapped wire that's shorting out when the unit is pushed fully in. Check the loom, tape up any exposed wires, and then carefully re-insert the stereo and see how you go.
2) If that doesn't help, try removing and disconnecting the stereo completely and swap the fuse again. If it works now, then the stereo may well have been wired incorrectly, though in that case it would probably have popped the fuse the very first time you turned the lights on after it was installed.
3) If the fuse still blows with the stereo (and any new wiring) completely removed, physically inspect the factory stereo wiring for damage and tape up as before. If you can't see anything, then the stereo may have been a red herring. If that's the case, we'll need to take it from there.
