Hello and welcome to the forum.
As long as it's the right key for the lock,I suspect the barrel has seized due to lack of use.Nobody bothers using the key in the lock if they've got remote locking,and the key barrel sizes into the cylinder.You can try and persavere with the WD40,as this does sometimes work.Otherwise you'll need to replace the key lock assembly.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
