New buyer questions
I am looking to buy an inexpensive phase 2 mark 1 Scenic as our second car. I have looked at quite a few and would like some advice from the experts please.
Of all the cars I have looked at so far, I have two possibles in mind at present:-
1. 2000 (V) 2.0 RXE, 66k miles, 12 mths MOT. Good order inside, cosmetic wear and tear outside, rust patches on both rear arches and starting at the sill seam at the bottom of the front wings. Front wings distorted by headlamps (bulging out), o/s temp display reads too low, engine good but seemed slightly tappetty, boot carpet sponge very wet, but water seemd fresh and rear door seal was not correctly fitted.
2. 2000(W) 1.6 Alize, 78k miles, 12 mths MOT, fair inside, cosmetic wear and tear outside, rust on one rear wheel arch. Boot carpet slighlty damp at the rear edge.
Neither car has an up to date service history and it is not known when either has had the cam belt changed. Both cars are at small used car dealers and are selling for £1900 - £2000.
Also, being an optimist, what would the Renault corrsion warranty been on these cars and could it still cover the damage after several changes of keeper and an unknown service history!
I know I may expect too much, but I want to make sure that I do not buy trouble.
Thanks in advance for your help.
