Indeed. I followed Botchit's advice in this thread:

drive computer not working

and it fixed it. It's a bit of a nightmare to get into and then to solder the wires back on but if you have the patience it'll only take 30 mins or so.

You have to remove the 3 screws under the Steering wheel facia and remove the lower part of the facia. Then turn the steering wheel to see, and remove, the two other screws holding the top part of the facia. Then remove the facia. Take off the immobiliser section of the ignition column. Remove 2 screws holding the stalk to the steering wheel. Then undo the connector and remove the stalk. You'll be able to see 2 brown wires that have come un-soldered. Solder them back on and Bob's yer auntie's man! ;o)

Refitting is just reverse of removal.
