The derv aint gonna work out that cheap with current fuel prices. And like MadNoel says, VX derv lumps are turd! Has to be the isuzu engine, The GM ones make the renault 1.9DCI engine look attractive!

The vectra wont have the early faults, That was the '96 cars, My dad had a '98 vectra 2.0 GLS from 6 months old, Best car he ever had!

Mondeo the best drivers car but very thirsty. Like otto said, frail auto box?

With little one, You may need to tighten up the old purse strings, I'd honestly head for the vectra. Easy to work on, Less insurance, tax? and servicing costs than the mondeo and safer and bigger cabin than the Astra.
Currently in Tiggerz_SRi's garage:
Audi a4 v6 avant, used to have bmw 525d se estate, 2001 Toyota Previa 2.4 VVTi GLS, '98 R FORD Galaxy 2.3 Ghia X a Espace III 2.2dT RXE and a Lag I 1.8RT!
