I honestly don't know. I rarely let my tank go down below half full before I fill it up, the cost of filling up from virtually empty frightens me too much.
The last time I did allow the gauge to go down past a quarter full was before fuel hit £1 a litre, the price I paid for a tank full was more than I paid for my first ever car.
50L = 11.22 gallons so if your OBC is pretty accurate I'd think it safe to do 270 mile before filling up and still having some change left in the tank.
Altho to me 26-28 MPG sounds pretty grim, the only time mine shows a similar figures is while towing the caravan with the wind in the wrong direction. Even then I'd be expecting a figure closer to 30 MPG.
