Question Dead Battery

Hi, I'm new to this forum and need a bit of help.. I have searched for similar posts but cant find anything related..

Its a Clio 1.6 16v privilege (bought in France) Dec 2002 model... I am currently in France..

When I went to open the doors using the remote key there was no power from the car to unlock them so I did this manually using the key, needless to say the car wouldn’t start.. a friend used his jumper leads, although the engine turned over it would not fire up... tried and tried without luck.. The car is now parked on the side of the road and I am off to buy a battery...

The car was parked outside in the snow in the Alpes for 5 days without being used, it started first time in the morning, I drove it for 10 miles or so before parking it up, the problem occurred later the same day (yesterday) without any warning….

I am worried that it could be something more serious , I cant understand why jumper leads didn’t do the trick in getting the car to fire up... any ideas ??

… and is there anything I need to consider when changing batteries ?

Any help appreciated as I am stuck..
