Am using an Opus 150w DC to DC powersupply which is mounted inside the pc case. Its designed to handle and filter the dirty supply from a car. So dropouts, spikes and cranking shouldn't be a problem (lets hope!)
It also has a nifty feature that starts and shutsdown the computer with the ignition similar to an amp.
Great idea! However i've already installed the hard drive into the case using a layer of 10mm foam on the under side and rubber gromits along the sides. Not ideal!
Now you've said it though i may look into seeing if i can mount the drive onto 4 small springs as your quite right it would certainly pro-long the life of the drive. Cheers for the idea.
