Nine times out of ten it is the seatbelt pretensioner connections under either seat, but it could very well be a fault else where. We have a scanner at work, but it won't read the Airbag codes on newer Clios as Renault haven't released the software yet,so I don't know which codes it would through up.
If you want to check the seat connections, with the ignition off pull a connector apart and push it back together.Switch ignition on and see if the light goes out.Do this for each of the connections and you will find the suspect one,if any.
If you are going to solder the joints then you must make sure the ignition is off,but you don't need to worry about the battery. If you still want to disconnect it for your own piece of mind, then the only things you need to worry about are knowing your radio code and resetting your clock!.All you need to do is disconnect the negative terminal, leave the positive connected.
Hope this helps.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
