Renault Scenic + new style handbrake...?

Hi - I'm new here

My husband has bought us a new (2004) car at the weekend (very kind of him, I know).

It's a Renault Scenic MPV 1.6 Dynamic (manual) - I think.
My husband has told me that it has a keycard and push 'start button' and an 'electric brake'...? Which is on the right hand side and a small handle in the dash board.....?

To say I'm confused is an understatement. So does this 'new style' of handbrake work in the same style as a usual handbrake.

Or does the handbrake automatically switch itself off as soon as you put your foot on accelarator.?

Sorry for sounding stupid, but no one seems to know what I'm going on about.

Any advise would be great as apparently I have to pick it up at the weekend
